So, I did two things Andrea. 1) I specifically worked on giving those students some scaffolds that did not require me to be "right there". I teach 2nd grade, and worry about students becoming overdependent. One scaffold was a dictionary. The second, was a personal sound/spelling card. This had pictures that correlated with sounds and spelling patterns. I worked daily with both of these students during guided reading so they new how to segment sounds, and were able to use both of these tools successfully. 2) The other thing I did was after I checked in with my 5 for the day. I would send 1 or 2 of the students that were well on their way, back to their desks after we conferenced. That would open a seat for my strugglers. I hope that helps. :)Nicole Rioshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07658679324886704899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1736142283756995761.post-88429114166991846892015-07-13T04:41:57.500-07:002015-07-13T04:41:57.500-07:00I have tried "conferencing" in a variety...I have tried "conferencing" in a variety of ways. I am curious how you fit in the child who is having difficulty in his/her writing when you already have a full table? Do you allow students to come up or do they have to wait until their day to conference? I teach first grade and I always find that there are a few students who struggle with writing and need my attention daily which often takes away from my ability to conference with as many students.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02968047447355392601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1736142283756995761.post-31869983716458476972015-07-08T03:33:12.880-07:002015-07-08T03:33:12.880-07:00These are great tips. It is definitely something that gets easier with time, practice, and especially once you find your "system". I struggle with conferencing because it seems like I can't get to everyone who needs help and/or reminders to stay on task AND get conferences done, but I love your suggestion to send kiddos to the table to write- that seems much more manageable. Thanks for the helpful post!
Stephanie
First Grade Bangs
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16307254267141310500noreply@blogger.com
