ReplyDeleteI am planning to show them a kid-friendly video on YouTube and do a guided drawing activity with them. Attached to the craft will be a "I Have A Dream" speech bubble for them to fill in. I am really looking forward to it =).

DeleteI show a kid friendly video on YouTube and usually read a book on him. We talk about why he is such an important man and discuss bullying and hopefully be able to use something that I might win from this giveaway :-)

ReplyDeleteMLK is one of the American heroes we study in-depth, so we'll be doing some read-alouds, biography box, a directed drawing, and comparing/contrasting him with Jackie Robinson (one of our other heroes).

We spend at least a week on MLK. Brain Pop has an excellent video. We also use are wide variety of children's literature and various activities.

ReplyDeleteI'm excited to teach MLK Jr. Day with my firsties. I will be reading a MLK book, doing a project with apples to show that the insides are the same no matter what color the outside is, watching a you tube video about MLK, and doing a craft.

ReplyDeleteBefore reading a variety of picture books about MLK Jr. I always make "Word Explosion" web charts with the following descriptive words/character traits and guide my students in brainstorming their meanings/synonyms. After reading, we return to the charts and list examples of how/why they relate his life and work.
